Product Description
One day I was 12 years old and broke. Then Grandma gave me Grandpa's old riding lawnmower. I set out to mow some lawns. More people wanted me to mow their lawns. And more and more. . . . One client was Arnold the stockbroker, who offered to teach me about "the beauty of capitalism. Supply and Demand. Diversify labor. Distribute the wealth." "Wealth?" I said. "It's groovy, man," said Arnold.

If I'd known what was coming, I might have climbed on my mower and putted all the way home to hide in my room. But the lawn business grew and grew. So did my profits, which Arnold invested in many things. And one of them was Joey Pow the prizefighter. That's when my 12th summer got really interesting.

From the Hardcover edition.

Customer Reviews for  'Lawn Boy'

A bit thin
I bought this book for my nephew who is 10 years old, and was a bit disappointed by the small number of pages. Although the content seemed age-appropriate, I was hoping for something that he could enjoy for longer.

A Book Review
Lawn Boy is a story about a boy who gets a lawn mower for his birthday. He decides to start a lawn mowing business to get some cash for the summer.

The story takes place in a suburban neighborhood. In the story, the boy meets a man named Arnold who in exchange for mowing his lawn, offers to be his stockbroker. Arnold invests in a lot of different companies. With their luck, the boy ended up getting rich. He also starts sponsoring a wrestler.

All seemed well, but one day, a man named Rock tried to steal the boy's money. His wrestler came to talk to Rock but Rock got scared and ran to his truck. He came back one more time though. When he did, the wrestler beat him up.

My favorite part of the book is when Rock got scared and ran away from the wrestler.

I would recommend this book to anyone who reads because they like to read, not because someone makes them. This is a great book.

Lawn Boy not Gary Paulson's best
I bought this book to read to my 7 year old son. It is hard to find books that young boys will like that isn't Sponge-Bob or some other TV show. When I read it to him he wasn't inthralled and neither was I. If you are looking for a book for an elementary school boy Gary Paulson's Harris and Me is much better and very funny. The Hatchet is great also, but not as funny as Harris and Me.

Terrible business lesson
I wish I would have known this book would turn so violent in the end. I thought it was a book about a boy who learned how to run a business and make his own money, and instead it turned into him making a decision to take the law into his own hands, and handle a business situation in a totally unbelievable manner. This book gives a bizarre message about how to handle competition and amazingly his parents go along with it! I thought the first half of the book was really good and couldn't wait to have my son read it, but after reading through to the end, I would not recommend this book if you're interested in teaching your children about how to run a legitimate business and learn critical business skills.

Great Story
Love, love, love this story!! My husband is a stockbroker and mowed lawns to put himself through college so this story is near and dear to him. It is also a fun way to introduce kids to the stock marker and business in a very entertaining way. Love it!
